Canon CCD Image Sensor Faulty
I have a Canon PowerShot S1 IS 3.2 MP Digital Camera with 10x Image Stabilized Optical Zoom which I bought a couple of years back online at Amazon. Today I showed it to one authorized service center in Bangalore and came to know that the CCD of the camera is fault and it is a manufacturing defect.
I did a bit of lookup and found out the following -
It has come to our attention that the vendor-supplied CCD image sensor used in certain Canon digital cameras and digital video camcorders may cause the following malfunction: When the product is used in recording or playback mode, the LCD screen and/or electronic viewfinder may exhibit either a distorted image or no image at all. While reports of this malfunction have been rare in the United States, we have determined that it may occur if the product is exposed to hot and humid environments.

I also have the same kind of ccd problem in Canon PowerShot S1 IS 3.2 MP Digital Camera. 2nd Aug 2008 I took it to the Cannon care center of 191/1, 5th cross Malleshweram Bangalore 560003 ph 41280150. They assured me to either replace the ccd of S1 IS free of cost or will replace the S1 IS with a brand new S5 IS. Hoping for the best.

i just had the DDS Image Sensor on a brand new Powershot G9 go bad. shouldn’t the problems with the Image Sensors be cleared up by now?
this is very frustrating because i missed what would have been some fantastic shots of something that will never happen again.

@Laura:
I am sorry to hear that. I understand perfectly how it feels when you want to click and you don’t have a camera. Cannon is supposed to be very good in customer service. Hopefully you should get your camera fixed.
