This chutney happened by accident. D told me a recipe verbally. I kind of misinterpreted it and ended up with a different chutney, but to my pleasant surprise it turned out great!

Ingredients:
6-8 red chillies(Byadagi or the longer variety which is not as hot as the small round ones)
2 onions finely chopped
1 tbsp jaggery
1 tbsp of tamarind pulp
1 tbsp grated coconut
Salt to taste

Method:
Soak the red chillies in warm water for at least 20mins. The soaking makes them soft and easy to grind. Now grind together the chillies, coconut, jaggery, tamarind pulp with water to make a fine paste. Now add 1 chopped onion and grind with enough water to get the required consistency.

Remove the chutney in a serving bowl and mix the remaining one chopped onion. Let the onion settle down for 15-20 mins and the chutney is ready to eat!

Serve with dosa, idly or chapathi!
